UPSC Syllabus 2019 – Civil Service Exam – Prelims, Mains, Interview

The UPSC has conducted the Civil Service Prelims Examination for the year 2019 on 3^rd June. The Mains examination of Civil Service Exam 2019 is scheduled on the end of September 2018. The Personality Test or the interview for the Civil Service Exam 2019 will be conducted on February 2019. The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has already released the timetable of the Civil Service Exam 2019, which will start on 2^nd June 2019. Here we will give you the entire revised syllabus for the UPSC Civil Service Exam 2019 as well as the year 2018 mains & interview. Here are the details.

UPSC Syllabus Civil Services Preliminary Exam

The Civil Services Preliminary exam comprises of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each.

• General Studies Paper I
• General Studies Paper II

Paper 1 contains 100 questions. Paper 2 contains 80 questions. Both the questions will have MCQ type questions. The marks in prelims will not be counted for final ranking, but just for qualification for the main exam. There will be negative marking too as 1/3^rd marks will be deducted for each wrong answers. Paper 2 is a qualifying type paper. The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified for Civil Service (Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.

UPSC Syllabus for Prelims Paper I

• Current events of national and international importance.
• History of India and Indian National Movement.
• Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
• Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
• General Science.

UPSC Syllabus for Prelims Paper II

• Quantitative Aptitude
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
• Decision-making and problem-solving.
• General mental ability.
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level).

UPSC Syllabus Civil Services Mains Exam

The UPSC Civil Service Exam for the Mains contains full marks of 1750. The written examination (main) will consist of the following nine papers, but only 7 papers will be counted for final merit ranking. For the rest two papers, the candidate should secure minimum Cut off score, which changes every year subject wise.

UPSC Syllabus Qualifying Papers

These papers are not counted for final ranking, only a minimum cut off must be secured by a candidate for further selection. Paper A will not be compulsory for candidates hailing from the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.

UPSC Syllabus Civil Services Interview

The Interview actually called the Personal Test by the UPSC. The Interview round consists of 275 marks. Anything related to the themes of the Civil Services Exam can be asked by the Union Public Service Commission in the Interview round.
