Essay On Republic Day

Keeping the present Covid scenario in mind, the center of attraction, the Republic Day parade is going to be shorter and with a limited number of contingents. Complete Coronavirus prevention protocols like social distancing will be maintained throughout the program. But there shall be no reduction in the amount of grandeur in the parade or the whole event in its entirety. The number of spectators will also be reduced keeping the Coronavirus prevention protocol in mind. Only strength of 25,000 people will be allowed to physically be present and watch the show contrary to the usual 1.3 lac. It is also said that a Bangladeshi armed Contingent will also be present in the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1971 War of Liberation.

As per tradition, the parade will begin in Vijay Chowk but instead of ending in front of the Red Fort in Rajpath, it will end in the National Stadium. It is going to cover a distance of 3.3 kilometers, unlike the normal 8.2 kilometers. An official has reported to the Times of India that children below the age of 15 and elderly people with co-morbidities will not be allowed to enter and physically be present. The number of contingents is also supposed to be reduced. In place of the usual 144 people, there are going to be only 96 people in each contingent. And in place of a 12 × 12 contingent, there is going to be a 12×8 contingent. Every marching contingent must wear a mask while marching. All these steps are being taken to ensure that the Coronavirus does not spread and that the safety of every individual physically present in the event is secured. A matter of concern is that around 150 soldiers who came to Delhi for the parade tested Covid positive and are now in a quarantine center.

Every year it is customary for the Prime Minister of India to invite a foreign dignitary as the chief guest of the event. This year, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is supposed to be the Chief Guest of the celebration. MEA has confirmed his attendance in this year’s Republic Day event. He is going to be the 6th Prime Minister from the United Kingdom to become brighten up the event of Republic Day with his august presence. And with this, the United Kingdom will become the only country to have been a chief guest in the Republic Day celebration in India six times. Right after the United Kingdom is France which has been invited 5 times till now to be the Chief Guest of the event of Republic Day.
